We have identified a protein derived from fish mucus that exhibits strong antimicrobial activity against various pathogenic bacteria and have successfully achieved its synthesis in rice. However, because the current version of the protein contains artificial sequences at its termini, there are concerns regarding potential regulatory restrictions.
In this study, we aim to establish the synthesis of a fully native-form protein with all artificial sequences removed, and to develop next-generation rice lines optimized for large-scale production. We will also evaluate the feasibility of commercialization toward practical application.
